You can now revel in the amazing beauty of Australia on the Indian Pacific train route from the most vibrant city in New South Wales to the nation’s sunniest state in Western Australia. One of our most popular train journeys, the Sydney to Perth (or Perth to Sydney) adventure will take you through the most stunning landscapes allowing you to encounter Australia’s natural gems. In this post, Aussie Trains takes you through some of the highlights.

Sydney: See the Opera House, the Harbour & Iconic Cityscape

Your journey aboard the Indian Pacific train will focus on the iconic hub of Sydney’s CBD. Whether you begin or end your journey here, you can cruise Sydney Harbour on a 78ft luxury vessel, enjoy a premium lunch with your new travel mates, sail past Sydney Opera House and enjoy the iconic cityscape, as well as Taronga Zoo, Luna Park and so much more.

Blue Mountains: Experience an Unforgettable Landscape

On the first leg of your journey, you will travel through the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains from the comfort of your Standard, Gold or Premium carriage. Enjoy the vast landscape of these rugged mountains and stunning natural beauty, take lots of photos and breathe in the glorious fresh air.

Broken Hill: Discover the History of Mining

Broken Hill in far west New South Wales is well known for its mining history, which is explored through geology exhibits at the Albert Kersten Mining and Minerals Museum. Depending on your itinerary of optional off-train experiences, you can discover the outback town at a leisurely pace.

Adelaide: Indulge in Wine Country

Welcome to cosmopolitan Adelaide. Here, you will be able to enjoy sightseeing, fine food and, of course, wine! Adelaide is known for its incredible fresh and unique wineries to explore, full of the most delicious South Australian bottles ready for you to indulge in and take home.

Cook: Enjoy the Vast Nullarbor Plain

In the middle of your journey, you will discover the vastness of the Australian continent as you cross the Nullarbor Plain, a huge area of flat, almost treeless, semi-arid country. Stop off in Cook, a town known for it’s train depots with a permanent population of only four, and soak in the amazing untouched landscape.

Rawlinna: Rest at a Deserted Oasis

Depending on your tour and optional extras, you can journey off-train in the isolated locality of Rawlinna. This little outpost on the Nullarbor Plain is pure jackaroo country, home to 80,000 sheep. Enjoy a night of dining under the stars and experience the best night sky that Australia’s deserts have to offer.

Kalgoorlie: Learn About the Goldfields–Esperance Region

We also offer off-train experiences in popular historical town Kalgoorlie. Home to fascinating gold rush history, stunning springtime wildflowers and amazing colonial architecture, it’s easy to see why this outback town is a hotspot for local travellers.

Rottnest Island: Sail to the Land of the Quokka

On most Indian Pacific train packages, you will have the opportunity to cruise to Rottnest Island, a stunning coastal island in Western Australia. Home to the quokka, you will have the opportunity to see these furry friends, as well as lots of other incredible wildlife and beachside landscape!

Perth: Relax in the Sunny Hub of WA
