After many years of hard work, setbacks and financial problems, the Great Northern Railway, as it was called at the time, came to another grinding halt due to financial problems. 38 years later it just about made its way to Alice Springs.
The impact of the new train line was immense. It opened up the Outback and allowed supplies which took weeks or months to transport to arrive at remote outposts within days. To this day, the region of Alice Springs is steeped in myth and legend from the early pioneer days and remains an important historical site.
